adec Technology challenge 2.0

This project was the third place winner of the Association for the Disabled of Elkhart County's (ADEC) Technology Challenge 2.0. The goal of this challenge was to create a device that helped facilitate the independence of ADEC's mentally and physically disabled clients. Through on-site observations, staff interviews, and generative research, my team determined that there was a design opportunity to help ADEC's clients gain independence in the kitchen. Simple tasks like measuring out flour can be arduous and frustrating for someone who does not have much dexterity or motor control of their hands. My team developed an auger driven flour dispenser that incorporates large tactile buttons and a simple user interface to allow ADEC's clients to quickly and easily measure predetermined amounts of flour for their recipes. My contribution to the team included creating the user interface and custom graphics, designing the safety cap, assisting in the creation of the complete CAD assembly of the dispenser, creating manufacturing files for a Techno CNC mill, and assisting in the fabrication of the frame, hopper, and panels of the dispenser.
